Recent changes to reporting systems

Note: Content in this section may require additional software to view. Consult our Help page.

FINTRAC has updated its systems for electronic reporting. As of February 6, 2006, various electronic reporting mechanisms were streamlined into one secure Web site called F2R.

One of the main changes in electronic reporting is that reporting entities have to be enrolled with FINTRAC. Each reporting entity needs to assign an F2R administrator who will be able to create users and maintain location information as well as create and submit reports to FINTRAC. For more information about enrolment, see the pamphlet called F2R Web Reporting Quick Reference (PDF version, 141 kb).

Please see our Frequently Asked Questions about F2R.

The changes also enable FINTRAC to return reports to you if they are found to have data quality issues. Once you have made the corrections required, you will forward the reports back to FINTRAC.

See more information about other changes that may affect you, according to whichever of the following reporting mechanisms you used previously:

FINTRAC's Report Preparation Software (FRPS)

FRPS was replaced as of February 2006 by F2R. The FRPS software is therefore no longer available for download.

If you used FRPS to send suspicious transaction reports, large cash transaction reports or electronic funds transfer reports, F2R will provide you with the same functionality to create, edit, track and manage those reports. Many fields of your reports will be pre-populated based on user information or using drop-down options and you will be able to create templates.

With F2R, you will not have to download software or updates, as F2R resides on FINTRAC’s server. Processing corrections to a report that was previously submitted to FINTRAC will be easier, as you can request the entire report back to process the change.

You can make the transition from FRPS to F2R as soon as you have completed the electronic reporting enrolment process with FINTRAC. If you have not heard from us about this, contact us.

Please note that effective April 1, 2006 you will no longer be able to use FRPS to submit reports.

FINTRAC's Web Form

If you used FINTRAC's Web Form, F2R will provide much more functionality to help you create, edit, track and manage your reports. F2R will also help minimize the time required to complete a report by providing additional pre-populated drop-down options, pre-populating information about the reporting entity and allowing the creation of templates.

If you used FINTRAC’s Web Form with a public key infrastructure (PKI) key, you no longer require PKI for this type of reporting.

You can start using F2R as soon as you have completed the electronic reporting enrolment process with FINTRAC. FINTRAC will contact you about this before February 2006. If you have not heard from us about this, contact us.

Please note that effective April 1, 2006 you will no longer be able to use FINTRAC's Web Form to submit reports.

 Batch reporting

If you currently transmit reports to FINTRAC by batch, you will need to make programming changes based on new batch specifications (version 3.0) as published in the technical publications area of our Publications page. All the changes described took effect May 29, 2006.

As of Tuesday September 5, 2006 FINTRAC will only support batches submitted under format version 3. Any batches submitted under format version 2 will no longer be accepted. Also, it will no longer be possible to make corrections by batch to reports that were submitted under version 2. Starting September 5th, only corrections for reports submitted under version 3 will be accepted.

For any technical questions, do not hesitate to contact tech@fintrac-canafe.gc.ca

In addition to being enrolled for electronic reporting, you will also need an administrator for F2R. This will enable you to maintain information about your locations and provide you with an alternative that you can choose for processing changes to reports submitted by batch.

If you have not heard from us about the enrolment process, contact us.
