Electronic Reporting to FINTRAC: Batch

Batch acceptance process

  1. Connectivity Test and Training Channel

After you have downloaded the batch transmision software, contact our service desk at 1-866-346-8722 or tech@fintrac-canafe.gc.ca for us to open a training channel for you.

If you have never conducted a connectivity test with FINTRAC you will be required to do so. The objective of the connectivity test is to confirm that data is flowing correctly from your organization to ours. To do this connectivity test simply create a .txt file in notepad containing the following: "We have sent this file to FINTRAC". This file needs to be sent to us through the batch transmission software application using the training channel. To learn how to send files through the batch transmission software, contact FINTRAC.

  2. Test Batch Files

Before you can start submitting real reports to FINTRAC by batch, you have to send in a minimum of five test batch files. You will have completed the acceptance process when at least four of your last five test files are free of formatting errors.

You have to go through this acceptance process for each report type that you will be submitting by batch.

Please refer to the appropriate FINTRAC's Specifications document to find instructions on how to build a batch file for each report type.

The test file size limit is 50KB. Any larger test files will be ignored by FINTRAC's servers. Each one of the five test batches has to have at least 25 and no more than 100 test reports within them.

Once you have sent your five test batch files please contact us at 1-866-346-8722 or tech@fintrac-canafe.gc.ca to let us know that you have sent the test files. Please do not send any more batches until we contact you.

  3. Acknowledgment Messages

You should receive acknowledgment messages from FINTRAC about your test files within hours of sending them. These will appear in your inbound channel to provide you with information about the results of processing for your test batches. Each acknowledgement will have the same name as the original file that you sent to FINTRAC, with a different extension, as explained in FINTRAC's specifications documents.

If there are formatting errors in your test files, you will have to correct and resubmit them. The acceptance process is not complete until at least four of the last five test files submitted are free of formatting errors.

  4. Production Batch Channel

Once you have successfully completed the acceptance process, FINTRAC will notify you and a production batch channel will be opened in the batch transmission software application for the report type.
