Tips for searching money services business (MSB) registration
Selecting a specific number of results per page
The default number of results per page is set at "25". You can change this default setting by selecting a different number from the pull-down menu.
Searchable fields
The search string you enter can be any one or more of the following:
- one or more activities for which an MSB can be registered,
- all or part of the following:
- a French or English MSB name
- a French or English name for an agent of an MSB
- an MSB registration number
- a street address, city, province or postal code
Searching by name will result in a search of the legal name of the MSB or its operating name, or the legal name of an MSB agent or its operating name. However, search results will show the legal name of any MSB or agent that met that search criterion.
For address information, entering just the name of a street and a city will find all MSBs or MSB agents on that street in that city.
Uppercase and special characters
You do not need to enter uppercase letters, as the search query is case insensitive; i.e., the same results will be obtained whether you enter uppercase or lowercase letters.
Do not use special characters, such as #@-*&, in the search fields.
To increase or narrow results of a search
To review the entire registry, leave the search fields blank then select "Search".
For the most results without viewing the entire registry, search using minimal information within a search field. For example, a search of "Canada" in the “Legal, operating or trade name” field will result in all MSBs and MSB agents with "Canada" in any of their legal, operating or trade names being included in the search results list.
The more specific information you enter in the search fields, the narrower the results of your search will be.
