Access to Information

The Access to Information Act ensures the public's right to have access to information in records in the custody or under the control of a government institution, in accordance with the principles that government information should be available to the public, that necessary exceptions to the right of access should be limited and specific, and that decisions on the disclosure of government information should be reviewed independently of government.

Requests submitted under the Access to Information Act for access to information held by FINTRAC must be submitted in writing in the form of a letter, or through an Access to Information Request Form, which can be found in the Access to Information and Privacy section of the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat Web site (www.tbs-sct.gc.ca).

Please note that there is an application cost of $5.00 to make a request under the Access to Information Act. Payments should be made out to the Receiver General of Canada and be in the form of a cheque or money order.
